Destination wedding in Bali Part 6 - Tirtha Uluwatu vs Tirtha Luhur

-->

Tirtha Uluwatu vs Tirtha Luhur
  1. The chapel at Tirtha Uluwatu is more architecturally unique
  2. Tirtha Luhur is more exclusive. Tirtha Luhur only accepts 1 wedding per day and only has 2 preparation room for bride and groom respectively. Tirtha Uluwatu accepts up to 4 weddings per day, which means one might run into another couple.
  3. Tirtha Luhur can accommodate more guests with 70 pax for chapel and 60 pax for reception villa (excluding garden area). Tirtha Uluwatu can accommodate 50 pax and 40 pax respectively.
  4. The layout of Tirtha Uluwatu is more complex, as one can observe from the aerial view below (from Tirtha Bridal Facebook page), which means the guests are in for more surprises at every turn and the chapel entrance were "hidden" from guest's view so the wow factor will be more intense. However, this might post a problem for elders with limited mobility. Tirtha Luhur is laid out in the same plane, which makes the wedding banquet cosier as guests will group together.

Well, how did we choose? Luckily, we were able to have the best of both world in this case.

In 2011/12, Tirtha Bridal has a package that allows you to have wedding ceremony at the Tirtha Uluwatu chapel and reception at the Tirtha Luhur compound. At USD3500 + 10% VAT (They only charge 10% VAT instead of 21% VAT and service charge as in the hotel, which is substantial), you would receive:

  • Wedding celebrant
  • Flowers decoration and flowers walkway
  • Singer and keyboard throughout ceremony
  • Flower girls in traditional Balinese dress
  • Return hotel transfer for Bride and Groom
  • Commemorative certificate
  • Welcome board and Guest book
  • Welcome drinnks, program and flower confetti for up to 50 guests
  • Bridal bouquet and groom boutonniere
  • Professional wedding gown and tuxedo steam
  • Free use of Tirtha Luhur facilities

Alternatively, wedding ceremony at Tirtha Uluwatu would costs USD 3000 + 10% VAT, which would include all of above except for usage of Tirtha Luhur facilities.

For us, it was a no brainer to go with the Tirtha Uluwatu + Tirtha Luhur package to get best of both facilities. On top of that, timing of the wedding ceremony also plays an important part. For the combined package, the wedding ceremony will take place at 3:30pm; but for the Tirtha Uluwatu package, it will only take place at 5:30pm. Since I love the effect of the blue sea and blue sky, having the wedding ceremony at a bright daylight of 3:30pm makes more sense. But for brides who love sunset ceremony, probably Tirtha Uluwatu will be more suitable.

Food at Tirtha Bridal is prepared by Japanese Chef Koichiro Hashimoto. At USD 65 + 10% VAT per person for the buffet, it is absolutely value for money especially when you compared prices in Singapore. For guest list of less than 40 pax, they can arrange French fusion menu starting from USD 65 + 10% VAT.

Drinks menu starts from USD 18+ per person for 2 hours for non-alcoholic drinks, USD 35+ will include beer, and USD 45 + will give you 4 kinds of cocktails, beer and the usual non-alcoholic drinks. Subsequent hour will be charged at USD 8 +/ USD 15+/ USD 20 + respectively (excluding 10% VAT). This is significantly cheaper than in hotel. And of course, for non-big drinker like us, they offer a-la-carte option.

Ok. So it seems like THIS IS IT!  We love the venue, we love the food and price are reasonable. We ALMOST paid the deposit. But we didn't.

As fate would have it, we didn't manage to pay the deposit and didn't have our wedding there (at least for now). We actually brought stacks of US dollar with us during that visit, eager to book our wedding on 29/9/2012. However, the finance department of the wedding planner we hire during that time didn't manage to provide us a proper invoice. And we found out that we can actually pay via credit card once we get back to Singapore. So why not pay by credit card? We can earn points and it is more secure compared to cash. So we came back to Singapore... and found out that my mum was diagnosed with stage III ovarian cancer. We had a great shock. It was the first cancer case in our family and we didn't know how to handle it. So the wedding plan was called off/ delayed until further notice. And up till now (4 June 2013), we still have no idea what we are going to do about it yet.

So that's about it for now on Bali wedding. I am still hoping that we have chance to actually "get married" there (We ROM-ed since then). But as long as I haven't have my actual day, there's still chance, right? Till then, we will keep you posted.

PS: We also visited a couple of other venue during our trip such as Banyan Tree Ungasan, Kayumanis and a hotel with chapel that I forgot the name. But what I posted were the top 3 contender. Perhaps I will write something about them later in the future.
